Complex and Emergent Spatial Phenomena in Large-Scale Simulated Wealth and Trading Model

Abstract

Recent work in econophysics has led to a number of useful models for the distributions of money and wealth in populations of interacting agents. We explore the spatial consequences of a models implemented with finite agent interaction neighbourhoods. We describe how a diffusion-based spatial movement dynamics allows formulation of an agent-based trading model where agents can change their set of potential trade partners and show how this leads to some complex emergent patterns as agents arrange themselves according to wealth. We present results on the model scalability to realistic population sizes and explore the phase space of the model.
