Numerical Investigation of Critical Systems Failure in an Agent-Based Percolation Model for Fused Conductive Links

Abstract

A number of power systems display critical systems bfailure behavioir due to localised overloading. We develop an agent-based percolation model for system of fuse-like elements that can be individually overloaded and burned out or removed from the macroscopic system. We explore the bulk behaviour of the system as microscopic load parameters are varied and identify phase transitional properties of the macroscopic system on various geometric arrangements and spatial networks. We use graph metrics such as flow to characterise the behaviour of parts of the subsystem as well as its overall properties.
